DJs in blind jet ski ride for licence

RADIO Lutterworth can normally

be heard on the airwaves - but this

Saturday they will be riding very

different waves.

Five of the station’s DJs are doing

a blindfolded jet ski ride to help

raise the money needed to pay for

a five year licence for the station.

It will be taking place at Stanton

Lakes near Broughton Astley from

midday.

Station manager Joe Dodson is

one of those taking part. He said:

“It’s a bit of a random idea that I

think started out as a joke.

Staff at the station have until January

to complete the application

to Ofcom for the five year licence

which the team hopes will lead to it

becoming a permanent fixture.

Radio Lutterworth are also hoping

to return to the airwaves again

next spring for a four week broadcast.

Airwaves to waves!

Published Date: 13 November 2008

A TEAM of brave disc jockeys from Radio Lutterworth donned fancy dress and blindfolds and took to the water on jet skis to raise money for their station.
The four presenters went along to Stanton Lakes, in Stoney Stanton, and were sponsored to do laps of the lake on the back of a jet ski piloted by an expert. They were cheered on by well-wishers.

Station manager Joe Dodson, who took part, said: “It was a fantastic day. We raised 500 which is most of the money we need to pay for a licence for the station.”

Presenter and technical director Ryan Chamberlain also took part.

He said: “The jet ski pilot did his best to try to throw me off – but I managed to hang on. It was a bit scary not having any control and not knowing where I was going.”

Radio Lutterworth has hosted two month-long broadcasts since it was founded.
